Default AC Low Side Port Leak....

Hi all...

Went to the local Advanced Auto Parts and had the guy help me with recharging the refrigerant in my 98 Trans Am. Previously, it was all hot air but started getting cold as soon as we put the refrigerant in...

I figured there was a leak somewhere, so after checking all the hoses, we noticed it was coming from the low side port itself! Looks like the little Schrader valve that is inside there is the cause of the leak. Is this a replaceable part and can I do it myself? Special tools required or is this just something that I should take to the shop?

get a valve tool and try tightening it, you can get them at parts store for a few bucks.

loosen it 1/4 turn then tighten it down. common fix.
you can check the valve by filling it with water and looking for bubbles, if it still leaks then you need to evacuate the system, replace valve, pull a vacuum then charge the system. worth it at that point to bring it to a shop, and at that point you should put a new accumulator and orifice tube in the system since it's 10+ years old.
