Default Common pulley issues with the ls1?**UPDATE ENTER**

I got a manual belt tensioner, but it seems like there is some pulley or pulleys that are attempting to toss the belt. The power steering pulley has some side to side play in it and there is an occasional noise coming from the belt when running. any way to tighten up the PS pulley?

Thank you

Yeah the bearing is going out. That pulley is only like $10-15 a kragen. Just waiting on my tranny mount to come in so I can do them both at the same time

You would need a PS Pulley puller to do this. Part of the tool/kit pulls the pulley off and the other part presses it on. The pulley itself is plastic and could be cracked, etc.

could i rent one of those from advance auto? I'll look into it this weekend, take my belt off and test the pulleys. Can someone post a pic of their idler pulley? The one above the balancer. Also would it throw anything off since I don't have the AC belt on?

Update** Checked the pulleys and it seems like the water pump pulley is wobbly and I was wondering if anyone else had this problem and it causing the belt to walk off??

The water pump pulley shouldn't be wobbly - how's your coolant level?

Got a replacement pump gonna put it on this weekend. No coolant leaks or anything. And it's a 98 so it is a bolt on pulley, but it was tight and the shaft was wobbly. Will my same thermostat work? The new pump has the pressed on pulley and it looks about the same.

Put on a new waterpump and it seems like that may have fixed it.

We'll see after I put some miles on it, looks like the balancer may be wobbling a tiny tiny bit, but I drove it pretty hard last night and it ran just fine.

just found this thread .... i've been chasing a gremlin in my pulley system also. i replaced the PS pump and water pump, the main belt tensioner and the idler pulley. i still have a slight squeal coming from the PS pump ..... i'm starting to think that my "new, remanufactured" Autozone PS pump isn't quite up to par. (hence my post on where to buy parts).

like jbridwell's last post ... i noticed the other day that the harmonic balancer also has a slight wobble to it. does anyone else have this problem? i've never pulled this one off, and the car has a ton of miles on it since i bought it .. so it hasn't been a big problem yet. just curious if any of you have this problem also?
