Default Please help! Stuck doing shock install.

I got the old one out and the new assembly together but I can't get it to mount up. The problem is if I bolt the bottom mount first I can't get the top back far enough to even come close to the mounting holes. If I put the top in first then I can't get the bolts to come through the mounts on the bottom. I can get the bottom mounts to line up with the holes but the mounting sufaces are not flush so the bolts won't go through. What am I doing wrong?

Same springs I had on and the same brand of shock. Just swapping out a broken koni.

ill assume this is the front shock, your going to have to loosen the mount and re-align it.

Do you mean the lower mount on the shock itself?

the shock mount that goes through the upper control arm, it has three bolts that mount to the body. when i did mine i thought i had it aligned correctly but was backwards.

Took 3 people and a jack to get mine lined up correctly.

I had the bottom loosely bolted in, then jacked the whole thing up to the top mount of the car to get the bolts through the shock mounts.

Also, make sure the whole assembly fits together outside of the car.
My bolts would fit through the new shock mount fine, but the upper A-arm wasn't lined up perfectly, had to "customize" and open up the holes a bit. Did this on the shock mounts inside of the car as well.

Good news is, it fits =P

I loosely bolted in the top first, then used a big screwdriver in the bolt hole to pry the bottom mount so I could get a bolt slid in.

been working on it 8 hours now. LOL. I'm pretty sure everything is lined up right because I can mount the top but not get the bottom in then I can mount the bottom and not get the top in.

I can even mount the top and stick screwdrivers through the holes on the bottom and jack the control arm up but I just can't get it lined up good enough to get the bolts through. When I do the bottom first I can't get top to push back far enough to get into the top holes. Doesn't even get close that way.

If I could leave the spring compressors on I could probably do it that way but I'd never be able to get them off.

Sounds to me like you just need to put a jack under the control arm to raise it some and then put the bolts in

The bottom of the shock mount is angled slightly, mabe it's facing inwards instead of outwards?

I got it. Whew!

I got the jack under there and just pounded the **** out of the bolts with big hammer and got it in just enough where I could thread them in with a ratchet. Wasn't that hard once I decided to do it. Just seemed like it should fit together a little easier than that.

Thanks to all who replied! much appreciated.
