Default security light is on in 02 ss

my security light is on constantly and i had the dealer check it out and they say it needs a new ignition switch. some of the local guys around me have said something about bypassing it, but i have no idea what they are talking about or how to do it. anyone have any idea how i would go about disabling it, or i would replace it myself if a key relearn is able to be done without going to the dealer.

Get a new key or replace your lock cylinder. Don't bypass it because it will come back. Its a pretty cheap fix and relatively simple

i was gonna replace the cylinder myself, but will i need to do a relearn for the new key and if so can i do it myself or does the dealer have to do it?

^^^ This guy does NOT know what he is talking about.

There is several members here that have done a VATS bypass "resistor trick" with much success.

Dealer quoted me $650 to replace lock cylinder

Cheap fix you say?!?!

the dealer quoted me almost 400 which is better than 650, but i could do it for much less. if i decide to do the repair (not doing the resistor trick) will i have to go to the dealer to do a key relearn or can i do it myself?

Oh I do know what I'm talking about. I bought the lock cylinder and did it myself so... cheap yes... effective yes.. if there are other ways of rectifying the problem just go ahead and say that. Don't go around saying people don't know what they are talking about when all I was doing was throwing ONE idea out there.
