Default headlight motor grinding after closed

i have a 2000 pontiac firehawk. recently when i turn my headlights off, the drive side headlight motor makes a buzzing noise after the headlight is closed. also when i lock my car with my key fob the headlights open and then shut. what could cause these issues and how can i fix them.

Gears stripped out. Time to replace the motor. Get a new unit w/ a lifetime warranty.

I purchased a motor from AutoZone for $74 w/lifetime warranty. I tried replacing the gear first but that failed a few days later so i went with the motor.

Do the free fix. Takes 10 minutes. Mine has lasted over 7 years doing it already. Replacing the motor is a bitch.

I tried the free fix too but i think those metal tabs on the motor just wouldn't hold firm so it stripped out again. Changing the motor is not that bad.

No need to go into the motor for the free fix though........maybe the tabs didn't hold after going in there.

How long did it take to change a motor?

Its been a while. I had the motor out twice. Once to swap the gear out then again to swap the motor. 2nd time about 20 minutes tops.
