Can I replace an ignition switch for an auto with one for a manual?

Can I replace an ignition switch for an auto with one for a manual? None of the parts stores have the one for an auto in stock. My car used to be an auto but I converted it to a 6-speed, so I'm hoping the connectors and everything else is the same.
