Question Heater core hose block off

I've put a 1998 LS1 into my GTA, and was wondering if it is ok to put a block off valve on one of the heater core hoses on the LS1 water pump. Thirdgens came with a heater core diverter valve so that during summer when no heat was needed, no coolant was run through the heater core.

There is still quite a bit of heat coming from the heater core area (though none from the vents thankfully). I just want to make sure I won't be blocking off a needed (for the w/p) outlet. Obviously with haveing a valve in there, once it gets cooler again, I can open it up and use the heater normally.
