Help car wont start with new battery!

Help car wont start with new battery! Car started fine when i was heading out when i went to turn my headlights on i heard a small pop and all my gauges were dead only thing running was the radio. when i shut it of it wouldnt start and i tried starting it with cables it still wouldnt. So i went and got a new battery placed it in and nothing i hear a small electric tick coming from the battery but no crank and my gauges still dont light up. Any help will be great. I have already done some research but not sure where to find the starter relay or the gauge fuse.
