Default 02 trans am Backfiring and sputtering

My 02 Trans am has, minor modifications and Cook headers and a few bolt ons and custom exhaust. I have about 25,000 miles on it and it just recently started backfiring and sputtering when driving. Car has 6 speed it sputters only when you are in higher gears and flood the gas too it. The car sits in the garage alot thats why it has such low miles. Please help.

Since you have headers, have you checked all the plug wires to make sure that none are burned or loose?

Are you seeing an SES light at all? Does it flash? Do you have access to a comprehensive OBD scanner?

I had the same issues in the spring. Turned out to be the driver side 02 sensor that went, then the plugs went bad. I had the SES light on and would sometimes flash. I scanned it and a random misfire code popped up.

New plugs and 02 sensors were installed and now it runs great!

BTW I also have long tubes, and only 39,000 miles.

i had the same issue not too long ago. Turns out it was a knock sensor/knock sensor harness that went bad. It screwed with my o2 sensors readings as well so when i replaced the knock sensors/harness the issue went away.
