Default Gas Guage issues 01 Z28

OK so just bought this car back and it needs a few issues fixed one of them being that sometimes when I start the car the gas guage will sometimes not register. It will give the "check guages" light like its out of fuel. wierd. It will even do it with a full tank. Whats even weirder is that when it does it over the time of driving the gas guage will float back up where it needs to be. Any ideas would be helpful.

Sounds like a dead spot in the sending unit. There's no fun way to check it either. May need a new one.

^ Let's see if anyone else has an opinion on this. That's what I'm thinking, but never know if someone else had the same problem but with a different fix.

Let the thread sit for a day, first.

You should try going to a car dealer and have your cluster checked out just to see what they think the problem is. Might need a new cluster replacement or at least that gauge replaced if possible just to replace that one. Dont know much about those kind of issues but thats where you could start.

hmmmm it could have a short in the cluster but if it did wouldnt that mess all the guages up?? or does each guage have its own relay in the wiring or what... Im betting its the sending module.

Subscribed to this thread .... I've got the same issue. I've assumed that it's the sending unit and that I'll change it when I have the pump replaced. It only happens every now and then, but I keep track of my mileage by the trip odometer just in case.

fuel sending unit.........VERY common due to poor assembly in the unit.....slop in the bushing does not allow the fingers in the unit to contact the board......replace the unit
