Default Foamy Oil!?

Heyyyy everyone!

Like the title says, I've been noticing my oil is slightly foamy.
I first noticed it last oil change when the oil was coming out, thought no big deal must be bad oil.

Well, I went to check my oil level today and when I pulled out the dipstick with the car fully warm it had some foamy oil on it, it has tons of little bubbles in it.

Hmm, could it be something to do with Condensation maybe?

How was the oil level? What color was the oil? Any milkiness to it?

It seemed to be the regular dark goldish color... And the oil level seemed to be in the operating levels, but I'm going to change the oil this weekend and take some pics.

:o hopefully nothing too serious.

Condensation......

Especially when you drive a short period of time. Oil doesn't get hot enough to burn off the water that accumulates in the crankcase.

Get it to operating temp for at least 15 minutes and see if it still remains....

I do drive short periods of time, and since its been about 20-30 degrees here..
M-F I drive about 15 minutes each way, so maybe thats what it is... Maybe this Friday I'll go drive around on the highway for 30 minutes or so.

Thanks for the input

Is that from draining the oil shortly after running the engine...?

Looks like the pump is pulling air, as said above.

Nope this is after letting the car sit for about 7 hours.
So the Oil Pump would be pulling air?

That just looks like the bubbles you get from oil draining into the pan. How has your oil pressure been? If you are sucking air in I would expect the pressure to be lower since the air is more compressible than the oil. Have you tried driving longer periods to see if it clears up?

Take a picture of the dipstick after its been running

The bubbles looked like that basically just on the dipstick.
I've noticed my oil pressure gauge has been reporting 40+ for most of the time barely dipping into high 30s at a stop light (automatic).

But, I do have new oil and will take a picture of it today or tomorrow after running it to operating temps.

Do you have any lifter noise? Tapping and clicking with the engine hot.

I never seen oil look like that and i've changed oil a few thousand times.

Have you used any oil additives?

If it sat that long, then it's something else... probably how the oil drains out into your pail.

No oil additives or anything used... Its still a pretty stock LS1 that has never been disassembled or anything.

Yeah, it was definitely cold oil and a cold engine... I'll be sure to look again and snap a pic of the dipstick.
