Does anyone have any input as to what this could be?

Call me crazy, but I don't think oil leaking from the rear main seal will come that far forward. I have a similar leak. Try pulling off the bell housing covers or starter and look in front of the flex plate. That might help determine where it's coming from.

What would oil on the flex plate mean? should i check around the gasket for the vavle cover?

No possible way for me to remove the Bellhousing sadly. so i guess the starter will have to come off.

But wouldnt oil in the bell housing mean a rear main? i cant think of any other seals that are back there other then the rear cover.. but wouldnt that be leaking on both sides?

Take the starter off and look above it towards the valve cover gasket.
