Default Overheating but not

Seen a few threads already and have determined it's probably the tstat or temp sensor. Temp gauge sits at 210 from startup, shoots up to 260 while both driving and idling, then goes down a bit then back up all the way. Car is not actually overheating as intake is safe to touch. Will driving it in this condition have any adverse effects? Just don't really have the time to get to it for a couple days.

Fans are pretty much constantly on and like I said, there is no way the engine is as hot as the gauge is reading.

Nope. If its not really getting hot.....drive it all you want. But the temp sensor is probably the problem. So it can fail at any time then your fans may not come on....then you'll overheat quick and be stuck.

But the risky thing is......driving it like that, you will never know when the engine is really starting to overheat.....and you could damage the internals, or even seize the engine, pretty damn fast without warning.

Temp sensors are about $30.00 and take 3 minutes to swap it.

Default

the temp sensor is located in the driver side head
up front by the number one exhaust port.

its gold with a two wire connector going to it.

unplug it and see what the gauge does.

if it drops down and wont come up the sensor is
most likely your concern.

to further diag that the harness and ECM are ok you can
check voltage and ground between the two wire.

also jump them together with a wire and you should
see the gauge peg and drop.
