Default Pulling the old ls1.

I'm getting ready to remove the 225k mi ls1 from my car. Before I do, I thought I'd ask how involved of a job it is. I do not have a lift, but do have a hoist. I have done general maintenance on the car, (oil change, brake change, tune up) but I have never had any experience with pulling an engine. I have read the chapter in Will Handzel's book which details the process as well as the sticky on here. It seems pretty straight forward, but do you guys think I'm in over my head here?

That's not a bad idea, thanks! Anyone have anyone have any words of wisdom before I tear into it?

I just did a quick Google search for "removing camaro ls1 engine" and got a couple of videos and several pages of results.

Good luck!

I did this last year and as a word of advice, take your time, get a bunch of plastic bags and label them for bolts, put the back tires up on ramps so you can get the front up higher. If possible pull the front bumper to give yourself more room for pulling the front up. Make sure you have a GOOD jack and something to rest the k member on when you pull the 6 bolts. Watch for and Wiring and Triple check your brake lines before you pull it out cuz I snagged one and broke it

Never did it, but always good advice is like above label bolts keep them and all hardware orgininzed. Gutted my intrior and it saved me a ton of time and frustration. Good advice for any project. I used an old tackle box for little screws and stuff.

Freezer/sandwich bags with the labels on them are the best idea. Saved me many times.

We used an engine hoist, two floor jacks and two jack stands. Engine was out in about 3 hours. And that was with one guy who has done ot ten times withe helping and ive bever done it. We disconnected everything, used the two floor jacks to lift up on each rotor as we loosened the kmember. Then we loweredthe kmember onto a dolly cart....then lifted the front end up with the engine hoist and rolled the kmember forward and clear of the car on the dolly.

It was hilarious how quick and easy it was......

All I did was help him and hand him tools.

......I agree, bag everything up and label them. We also broke one break line. $10.00 at a You-Pull-It junkyard so that wasn't too bad.

after you get it all out it might be a good idea to clean up the engine bay a little. theres probably leaves and all kinds of stuff in there. maybe paint it too lol.

Thanks, and yeah I was definitely planning on painting the engine bay while I'm in there. Ill try to take as many photos as I can and, if I can get a hold of a camera, just may make a video or something. Thanks again for the tips, I appreciate them.
