Default LS1 Strange Instrument Cluster Issues

Well I just ran into another problem with my F body Trans Am I had been driving the bird about a week ago today. I was driving around 8:00 pm when suddenly my instrument cluster light turn off while driving. I analyzed it a bit further and notice that all my tachs , speedo, odo, temp, where all working as they should. My tach had remain on and was still calculating the mileage. I thought the light has justg blown out and cause it to turn off.

The Next day at my gf house we were going to go fishing so I walked up to it as normal turned it on the first crank I then noticed none of my tachs work not a single one and the instrument cluster light still didnt work. I took it to a local mechanic he found that 3 fusses had blown one on the dash and 2 inside the engine bay. He replaced all 3 then my tach and everything else starting working fine as it should. I took it to the lake and shut her off.

A few hours later I went back to the car turned her on cranked right up and
then now only the oil pressure and the alternator are working nothing else is not even the hatch release I checked the fuses they all seem to be fine. Anybody know where I should start?

Sounds like its just the fuses, question is why are they blowing? Have you checked all of your grounds? Do you have any aftermarket wiring / stereo?

Same thing happened to me and i found it to be the fuse on drivers side dash labelled PWR ACCY.

15 A fuse. But like other member said, why are you blowing these fuses?

Everything works great except the backlight on the instrument cluster so I am thinking it would be the dimmer switch any thoughts?

I have had the same problem & haven't found a solution yet, ...
The Dimmer/Headlight switch combo unit can be found on Ebay.

Mine started when my dimmer switch overheated & burnt up, ...
Put a new one in it & now the backlighting for the gauge cluster does not come on.
But the dimmer switch somewhat works because the lights on the steering wheel will change with movement of the dimmer.

i don't mean to be a smartass, but have you adjusted the dial on that switch? it could be turned all the way down, causing the lights to be dimmed completely. Try turning it up to see if it changes, and then when you keep turning, it should activate the interior lights.... Does that all work?

No dont worry thats the first thing I did =D but I finally got an answer I went ahead and tried to remove the switch to take it to a junkyard. As I was removig the harness to the switch I noticed some lose wiring I used electric Cleaner and electric tape to get the wiring nice and tight. I placed it back in and changed the fuse and wala it worked thanks for the help guys
