Fuel pump maybe going?
Our car has been getting progressivly harder to start, it will not start on the first crank usually about 3 key cycles. I am thinking its the pump losing pressure through the check valve. Any other things to check before I change the pump? No power loss from what I can tell.

thanks I will pick one up from the parts store, I also have noticed that it seems to stutter a little bit on the first takeoff after pulling out of the driveway. Not sure what is happening as there is no codes,

I started having the same problem about a month ago. I already knew my pump was going bad because it was only making 40 psi at the rails. So I bought a Walbro 255, installed it and the car still did the same thing. My pressure was great though(60 psi). So there's gotta be somewhere in the system that the pressure is bleeding off. Honestly its not that big of a nuisance to me to have to turn the a couple of times and start the car before that pressure bleeds. So make sure you check your pressure before investing in a pump.

My experience with the stock fuel pumps in F-bodies is that they either work or they do not work. I have had 3, and the pumps seem to last about 170,000 to 190,000 miles; when they fail they just stop and the car dies. I have never seen (and I do check fp about once a year) one just get weak, but i suppose it is possible.

In my case it could have been attributed to something else as well. When I found the pressure low I changed my filter thinking it was clogged. Do you think it could have blocked 20psi though?

I would check the easy things first. Like spark plugs and what not. I bet its an internal fuel leak. Somewhere between your pump feed line and fuel rail. Fuel press regulator or a check valve

You may have an injector(s) that leak down after you shut it off. Not good as it dilutes your oil as it just washes down the cylinder into the pan.
Get a gauge on the rail and see if it holds pressure after you shut it off. If it does then problem is not fuel. If it does not try a couple of tanks with Techron cleaner and see if the injector is clogged and does not close completely.
You can pull the fuel rail/injectors out, put 8 small containers under the injectors and crank it. Make sure the flow stops on all of them.

I had the same problem with car starting hard and needing to prime the pump several times to start. It is either the fuel pressure regulator or the check valve on the pump itself bleeding your pressure off. Thing is, both are located inside the fuel tank so your best off to replace both while you're in there. I did. The regulator is rather expensive...$100 or so from the dealer but worth the piece of mind and not having to tear into the tank again right away.

I havent messed with the car yet as it is just a toy car for her. If I do need a new setup I will probably get the racetronix setup as it seemed cheap and used an OEM pump, I assume the whole module they sell includes the regulator also correct?
