I needed to turn on my dash defroster & when I turned the **** to the top defroster setting only and air blows thru the top & botom plus both icons light up. Is this factory or did my wonderful p/o butcher something? He had the top/t/c surround glued back on so he was in there for some reason. Any common reason someone would pull this area apart? Thanks people.

These are controlled by little vacuum hoses that attach to the back of the control ****. It is possible that one of these little tubes is disconnected or some other issue.

The faceplate that covers the radio and heater controls just pops off, it is held in by a couple little clips. Use a small flat screwdriver and carefully remove it. Then you will see a couple of bolts or screws that hold the heater/ac control unit in.

I would pull the heater/ac control unit out and look at the rear connections to the ****.

Thanks, the hood is just a stock hood with stainless steel nostril inserts instead of the black plastic.

Defrost automatically turns on the A/C if thats what you mean by "icons lighting up". And its normal for air to bleed out of the floor when its on defrost, and vice versa.

Glad to hear the bead is normal and my butcher p/o didn't break something. I was referring to both orange lights bottom heat only and defrost both lighting up w/ the dial turned to defrost. Hope that makes sense? I appreciate your reply.
