There should only be one wire - the exciter wire. On our cars, only one terminal of the four prong plug is used.
I'll bet someone broke your wire, replaced the pigtail, and just cut the excess three wires. Its not an issue, but you can remove the extra terminals and cut wires from the connector, if you want.
