Default New rack and pinion does not line up to dead center steering wheel

I am replacing my rack and pinion with a brand new AC Delco unit in my CTS and the steering knuckle which was lined up to dead center won't line up with the input shaft on the new rack and pinion. I can turn my steering wheel to make it work but I don't think that's the way to go... Any advice is appreciated.

I'm not sure if the CTS has the electronic assist steering, but it sounds like you need to hook it up and then get an allignement to recenter the steering wheel

You need to do an alignment. Toe is adjusted to center up the steering wheel to the rack (to an extent). New racks are usually close to being centered, but are not perfect. You can eyeball it, but it'll probably be off. Needs to be up on an alignment machine.
