Default oil for 2000 camaro ss

hey guys so i have been looking for some info that i cannot seem to find but i am also pretty blind so if there is a thread on this please point away

so i have a 2000 camaro ss and some what low oil pressure when nice and warm i just want to know how bad that is for the ls1 (cuz i always assumed if i have low oil pressure the motor is on its way out) and if i should use a thicker oil. i use royal purple 5-30 full synthetic should i go to 10-30?

First, let me put on my flame suit.

Alright, Royal Purple is garbage. I highly suggest reading independent research and study before buying in to the BS that Royal Purple sells people on.

Also, define low oil pressure. What PSI are you seeing at cold start? How about when the oil has reached ~150 degrees (10-15 minutes of driving)?

Are you burning oil? Any smoke from the car?

If you have low oil pressure then figure that out. Messing with oil weights is just a band aid. If you have low pressure on 5w30 then you have an oil pump going out or clearance issues inside the motor. How many miles and define "low" pressure.

If you have a stock engine, No. You should follow the guidance in the owners manual. For where you live, that would be 5W-30.

Most all the dealers put 10-30 in the LS engines because of oil usage. I use it and if you buy the high mileage its on the thicker side<whatchoo want.

If he's in nice, sunny, warm Cali, he can get away with Mobil 1 0W-40 (one of the best, IF not THE best 'off the shelf', Wal Mart available for cheap, oils in existence. It's also one of the thinnest/highest viscosity index, 40 weights anywhere ).

This is especially true if it is a VERY high mileage, unopened, LS1 in his area.

But YES, ultimately, the oil pressure/compression should be checked, and any mechanical problems should be fixed/engine rebuilt/crate motor/etc.
