Default Chnaging ignition cylinder

My brother bought a '97 Formula that the previous owner for whatever reason used a screwdriver and ruined the ignition cylinder. My brother got an entire steering column out of a Camaro today. If we switch the ignition cylinders is the VATS going to cause a problem with it not being the original key and resistor? If so how to we get it to work corrrectly?

Someone can verify this for your year as I can only speak for my 2002 TA. When I purchased a new cylinder a blank key came with it. It is keyed to the ignition cylinder but includes NO resistor. You then have a new key (or keys) cut using this as the pattern but with the resistor value of your original key/VATS.

You can go to a dealer and give them the VIN and year of the donor car and they should be able to look up which code the chip is. (It's not that complicated, I think mine in my 95 Formula was a 5.)

FWIW, somehow I was able to use mine for months with a blank key that had no resistor in it at all.
