Default Shifter moving... a lot

As the title indicates, that is what is happening from a quick glance. I'll try to describe as best as I can what is happening:

From a stop, I let the clutch out, and the car shoves off. As I look down as I'm initially moving, the shifter is shaking back and forth like how a car bobs up and down with a blown shock (does that make sense?). And of course when I hit the gas in any gear, the shifter viagras right towards the passenger seat.

As I'm driving down the road, when shifting gears, the car lunges after I let off the clutch in the next gear. No matter how smooth I shift, the car behaves afterwards like I let the RPMs drop to idle, then popped it out for the next gear.

I figure at the very least I am in need of a trans mount. Any ideas what else I might need? Torque arm mount I checked last weekend (stock is 2piece, correct? I saw the distinct two pieces, but looked ok otherwise). I have heard that even though it looks OK, it might still be shot. My motor mounts I wouldn't be surprised in the least bit if they are shot to hell. In any event...

Car has 66k miles, was babied for a large portion of its life, and now is daily driven. I have replacement rear shocks, and am looking for new fronts to put in at the same time (currently deCrapons).

I would get under the car and examine but I can do that about once every couple weeks (no garage at my current apartment and right now the parking lot is fairly snow covered). I DO have a set of ramps I can throw under the car and have a look, but if the car needs to be supported by the frame to check some things, I'll have to wait. Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks for looking.

I would try a new trans mount and see if that fixes it. I had the same symptoms in a truck I had and that was the issue.

Definitely look at the trans mount. 66k miles is plenty if the weather has had a chance to take its toll on the mount. Motor mounts too.

Not even that, but the age of it. The newest f-body is almost 12 years old now...

Yep I have a feeling that's why this 02 with 66k miles feels so much worse now than my 2000 with 120k miles felt 6 years ago. I will grab a trans mount and slap it in next weekend more than likely and report back. Thanks for input.

If you need one I have a stock replacement in good shape. It was for an auto but im pretty sure they're the same thing for both transmissions.

OP -

A triple set of poly mounts (2 for the engine and 1 for the trans) and a Hurst Competition Plus shifter will resolve all those vibration issues.

Good luck!

Yep I definitely agree I need some poly motor mounts. Had a poly trans mount on my last LS1, but hated it. HOWEVER it was probably because I had stock motor mounts (now I know how poor of a choice that was), and I had the energy suspension one with that load plate business. I will be doing poly mounts when I check/replace the gaskets on my cat connections and exhaust manifolds over the holiday. Figure if I'm gonna fix all those gaskets and everything is off, might as well slap on the mounts at the same time.

I'm running solid motor mounts and they really aren't hard to live with. However, I hated my poly trans mount. It vibrated the entire center tunnel and console of my car constantly. I'm actually running a rubber trans mount and even with the solid mounts, it is better than with stock motors mount and poly trans mount.
