Hatch release button zero's oil pressure gauge
My oil pressure & voltage gauges are a bit twitchy, even though I've had the dealer check it with an manual oil pressure gauge, replace the OPS, and verify the charging system.
When I finished at the tuners yesterday, he commented that he noticed that when he pressed the hatch release button with the motor off, the oil pressure gauge goes to zero and then comes back up. That doesn't seem like normal behavior, could that be a reason for the funky gauge readings? A bad ground somewhere?

however my 2006 gmc sierra when you turn the key to run the oil pressure gauge rises to 20 and sits there until i start it. then as soon as engine starts it drops to 0 then comes back up and reads 50.
my guess is the problem is in your instrument cluster.
or because the hatch release goes through the BCM then operates the hatch release solenoid, the BCM is notorious for developing various problems so that might also be part of the problem.
if you can get an analog type volt meter so you can see voltage fluctuation when it happens, that would be more conclusive- if the voltage drop does not actually happen when pressing hatch release then the problem is more likely in the instrument cluster and not a ground connection problem.
