Default steering wheel issue

1999 z

steering wheel will manually adjust and lock into place......but once i put it at a certain position it will not lock completely.

it doesnt drop by itself but if i put a little downward force on it...i can move it. it will automatically go back it its normal position but still move down with a little pressure

That sound to me like the typical worn out GM steering column.

Best way to check is to look at the column and check if the tilt lever moves with the wobble while not touching the lever.

If that is it the steering column needs to be rebuilt/repaired.

A lot of GM tilt columns have bolts that get lose and cause what this sounds like.

I don't know, but I think for that you will need to send it out to a specialty shop.
