Default Hi beams stuck on and cant turn them off

When I turn the lights on my hi beams are automatically on and I cant turn them off. My blinkers(left and right) work just fine and my windshield wiper works as well when I pull back (to turn off brights) theres no click or resistance? anyone experience this issue?

According to my 1996 GM service manual (Page 8A-100-1), the "Headlamp Dimmer Switch" is the only component between the "Headlamp Switch" and the bulbs themselves - so, if the wiring has not changed, then it sounds like the "Headlamp Dimmer Switch" has failed in the "Hi" position.

The switch isn't up top, it's down under the dash.
You'll need to remove the two lower dash panels, then follow the rod down the steering column up under the dash were you'll find the switch. Make sure you have plenty of light because the switch will still be hard to see, you'll most likely find it easier by feel and should be able to manipulate the switch to click back to low beams. This won't fix anything, just put it back to low beams.

Here's the switch/dimmer:

Part number 26035242. $32 at the dealer, about half that online.

You should check that the switch is the problem by looking under the dash and watching for the rod to move when you attempt to toggle the high beams with the T/S lever. If the rod doesn't move you probably need a new lever. If the rod does move then you probably need the switch.
