Default Are rusty brake lines common on our cars?

Before the winter my mechanic pointed out to me my rusty brake lines match my rusty drive shaft. I trust my mechanic but I would like to know what is the difference from surface rust and replacement? I will probably change the brake lines to be safe. Happy Wednesday.

they are quite common in a lot of gm vehicles that operate in the snow belt where salt chemicals are used on the roads. the brake lines are steel, not sure if they have a coating in the 4th gen f-bodies. but they will eventually rust, then fail. once the rust starts it will get progressively worse. if you have light surface rust on the brake lines you can easily save them by using some spray paint.
i would also be concerned about your steel drive shaft, that needs to be balanced and as it rusts away balance may be affected. the drive shaft is easily removable and can be painted easily, you can probably paint it installed if you don't mind a little overspray.

If you are concerned about safety, I'd invest first in replacing those OE shocks. They can't still be working properly...

Would the Wurth Rustproof paint, or POR-15 save the rusty brake lines, and prevent them from rusting through??
