Default 99 silverado security light on ALL THE TIME

Just bought the truck knowing that the security light is on all the time, but the car runs and drives all the time. It is on even when the key is out of it and the door is closed. Maybe theres a broke sensor in the door that thinks the door is open? I dont think it has keyless entry and doors are manual. Any ideas of what to look for?

Which body style is it? GMT-400 or GMT-800? Is the light on while you are driving?

If it looks like the Suburban in my signature it's a GMT-800. If that's the case (which it should be), then the key out, door shut thing is normal. My Suburban does it too.

If it's flashing when driving that means you have a security system fault. It's telling you it's not working. Does your rig have remote start and/or an aftermarket alarm?

It should run and drive fine, but don't disconnect the battery until you know exactly what s going on with the security system. And that your key matches the Pass Key 3 system installed on your rig.

Figured it out!! The little computer box under the driver dash had the brown connector unconnected. Plugged it in and it went right off

Yea it was starting and running just fine and the light hasn't came back. Now I'm gonna change the oil and pitman and idler arms. I think I'll seafoam the pistons. Guy cut the cats out and welded in straight pips cus the cats were clogged. The engine feels a little weak so it might help. Crossing my fingers that this turns out to be a good truck. I got it pretty cheap!!!

Nice. Good luck. These engines do feel a little weak in high air temps. It gets a lot more power under 75°F.
