Default Do pistons have to go back in the same cylinder?!

So i had all my pistons layed out in order and then like a genius i put 4 from the right side all in a bucket for cleaning and nownof corse dont know which was which .. How important is it that they go back in the same cylinder the ame out of? I am honing the cylinders and reringing the pistons.. Are theres any numbers maybe on the rods that might help me? Anyone please.. Thank u!

Yes, they are mated to the cylinder

Honing doesn't do **** for true size of the bore - it's just a reman procedure to seat the new rings

How bad of an issue will you have? That I don't know

But, it's pretty bad IMO

Personally, I'd over bore the block the minimum & get new oversized rings & pistons(I have remanned a handful of engines on my own).

ok well def not letting the mix up cost my another 1000 dollars smh.

heres what im going to attempt anyone chime in if you think this is still a bad idea. im just going to measure piston to bore clearance on all cylinders (i still have 4 that i know the number too for cross reference) and plasti gauge everything untill i figure out what goes where?...
this is assuming that by "mated" it means that the cylinder and piston have worn down equally and mix matching the extent of wear could result in insufficient piston to bore clearance?

If you look carefully you can match the cylinder wear to the piston.

That is a really good idea

It may be possible

But, miss matching pistons to bores just screams disaster

thankz man ! i think that actually worked ! it was only 3 pistons that were mixed up and just matched the wear lines running down the skirts to the cylinders..looks like they match right up
