Default Bad vibration at idle.

Not sure if this is the right place to post this but... My car has a really bad vibration at idle and when I'm driving too. It comes and goes every few seconds. I'm gonna try to put up a video soon to give you a better understanding. Any ideas of what could be causing this??

I would check fuel pressure first, could be caused by a clogged fuel filter or weak fuel pump/injector too. Or possibly ignition related such as a weak/bad ignition coil. I would scan for codes first to see if it's a faulty sensor/misfire code etc?

Have you checked for engine codes?

It's throwing a code for an Evap leak. If I remember correctly, the code is P0442.

That could do it (if the problem is bad enough to impact your fuel delivery) and cause the engine to stumble:

Update: I've actually had a shop take a look at the code and they found nothing mechanically wrong with it. They even ran some sort of dye through it and still nothing. The code was deleted and came back about a week later.

Where about is the sound coming from? Sounds more like a...ticking than a vibration to me. It only does it at idle? Or does it change at all with RPM?

I say vibration because the whole car vibrates when it happens. It almost feels like sitting in a massage chair. It kind of sounds like a metallic sound that's coming from beneath the car. Can't really tell if it changes with RPM.

Anyone else have any thoughts on what this might be?

Last time I cleaned my air filter I didn't notice the maf to be dirty. I'll double check though. Also my car is throwing a code, but I've taken it to a shop and they couldn't find anything wrong with it.

You can only see this "dirt" under magnification.

And this can cause a rough idle? What's the best way to clean a maf?

I think the MAF would be a long shot and that you should fix your codes first. Cleaning the MAF is inexpensive and all you need is MAF cleaner, which is sold in a spray can.

Ill take it to a different shop and see what they say because I've already had the code cleared once because they couldn't find anything wrong with it. The code was showing a small Evap system leak but there was no leak to be found.

Emissions problems can cause this sort of thing. The code may not be directly related to the sensor throwing it and small problems can express themselves in big ways.
