what kind of noise does a broken/cracked valve spring emit If any??
Is it a LOUD metallic 'clacking' type sound, or a low, soft click, or are they usually silent?

The sound of the broken spring is not as loud as the sound of the piston slamming the valve. So you won't hear a broken spring, just the effects of it, which is the piston hitting the valve.

Since I am getting NO; codes, lights, major loss of power, smoke, backfires, etc., I guess this is not the case for me.
