Default Plug Change Issues

Just bought A 98 Trans AM, it has 150,000 on it. I don't know if the plugs have ever been out. I spent about 5 minutes trying to remove one, but I have the sick feeling that they're seized in the heads. Anybody have any good idea how to remove them without removing the heads

Your only option is good ole muscle. You can get a friend.....one of you holds the socket and ratchet onto the spark plug nice and straight and solid....the other guy can use a 2-3 foot long 2x2 piece of wood against the end of the ratchet....and with a hammer you smack it loose slowly. I had to do that with a friends car when some jackass mechanic over-tightened his plugs during a tune up.

Oh...good luck with #8. Get that one from the bottom maybe.

Just start on the plug with the most access to get your confidence on. (That way you can easily put a helicoil on it later, if you need to.)

Here's some good tips: http://installuniversity.com/install...g_and_wire.htm

^ You'll need to unhook and remove stuff to get good access to the plugs. I also like this special LS plug tool for #8:

you can try tightening the plug alittle then loosen it. it could break the rust alittle when you tighten it. iv done it on header bolts. also try some wd40 or pb blaster

Have you tried letting the heads warm up?
