Default Weird Noises?????

so guys i need some advice.... my car has a grinding/poppingish noise coming from the rear end or trans i think... its not a new noise. its been there since ive had the car. its only on initial throttle, or i can hold the brake and between 1800-2000k rpm it does it, i can mash it down the interstate and it wont do it.... any ideas of where i should start looking?

Check your bushings everywhere. Specifically....the torque arm bushing. Do you have any vibration at any speed...?

Driveshaft u-joint, it connects the driveshaft and differential yoke

You can check to see if it's bad by putting the car on jack stands, put it in neutral and check it for play. If it is a u joint I would pull the driveshaft off and bring it somewhere. Random picture of drive shaft and u joint.

Do you ever get a clunk going from drive to reverse?
You can pry at the joint between the joint and the driveshaft and watch for play. There should be no play.

I would say it's a bad u-joint. Take the drive shaft out and bring it to a shop to have a new one pressed in. Get a solid/non greasable one for they are stronger than the hollow greasable u-joints

Yup...bring it to a drivetrain shop if the u-joint needs to be replaced. My shop in Lauderdale that I use charges $25.00. Well worth it to have it done right.

But check that torque arm bushing for dry-rot or if its falling apart. Or any play in it. It only has to move a tiny bit to cause issues.
