Default Recall for EGR 1998 T/A

Stopped by my GMC dealership today to have them check my rear axle oil level since my pinion seal weeps a bit and they told me I have a recall on the EGR valve. I've had the car for 5 yrs and been in to dealer before but nothing about this came up. So now $200+ worth of parts are on order and my axle oil level was fine. Anyone know what the issue was with the EGR or when the recall came out? Googleing around it looks like an old one.

Wait...please don't tell me you are paying $200 for EGR related OEM replacement parts on a 18 year old car...

Rip that crap out and put LT's on it.

If this is all covered by GM..then who cares let them replace all of it.

Parts and Labor covered. Yeah, some headers would be awesome but the car is pretty much factory stock with the exception of the catback and I'd like to keep it as original as possible.

Then keep all the stuff and put it back on when you go to sell it.

They still have to fully cover ALL emissions recalls, even after 18 years and however many miles?!?

Ask and you shall receive:

This was Campaign #98047 (issued September, 1998)

Certain '98 Camaro/Firebird with 5.7L may have an EGR valve that could fail due to internal corrosion. Replacement items include a new valve and gasket (part numbers 17113589 and 12558353, respectively, as of 09/98 - numbers may have changed since that time.)

This recall campaign was completed on my '98 Z28 on 9/24/98, so yes it's an old one.

Unbelievable they actually honored this.
Anyone remember when the paint bubbling on the roof was on a "silent recall" because the bubbles were piercing through the paint form the incorrect glue? My 2001 Z28 had that issue and was within the warranty but man did I have an ever so difficult time proving that warranty existed (and I failed too)

Nobody would remember that because there was never any recall of any kind on this issue, just a TSB. Some individuals were able to get this covered under the 6 year/100k mile rust through/corrosion warranty, some were able to get their dealers to cover it under their "good will" programs, and some fought with GM for partial coverage of the repair. Most have had to pay full out of pocket, though.

Thanx for the info. Hmm...I haven't had the car to the dealer in a couple years. I wonder if the recent ignition switch scandal triggered an effort to start cleaning up old recall items.
