PS Groan...Thoughts on my troubleshooting.
98 Z28 running what I have to assume is the original power steering setup. When I purchased it the car handled well but it needed new tie rod ends so I replaced them. The Rack looked like it spent 150k under the car and the boots were ripped which I replaced but it does not leak. Well it has devloped a lovely groan when I am turning the wheel at slow speeds. I have added Lucas and had no luck so my first instinct is to replace the rack, PS pump and high pressure line. I am also on a monthly, blow money on my toy, budget.
I don't think there is a leak as the fluid level has not budged in the 2k miles I have driven it. Yes I have run the wheel back and forth to bleed the system and have had no improvement. Should I just replace the pump and see what happens? I am on the fence here and not buying a rack = tubular control arms in the rear...

+1 on changing the fluid to quiet the noise. I just finished reading a 25 page thread where it was repeated found that old fluid was the root of their noise problems.
Here is the link to the page that describes a thorough PS fluid flush: (post #177)

Redline PS fluid works well. But a turkey baster pulling from the tank will take a LONG time to replace it. You need to undo a hose from the tank and route it to a milk jug. Turn the car on and let it pump itself out while keeping fluid full in the tank. When it runs clear/clean, it's drained.
Then follow proper burping procedure.
