Default Burning more oil than usual

Recently I noticed my 2000 WS6 has been burning a lot more oil than what I am used to. I know some of these cars can go through a lot, but there is a significant shift lately. Since I bought the car new, going through 1.5Qts per 3k miles was pretty normal. Recently it seems like it is going through 1Qt per 400 miles! I have about 80k miles on the car, and the oil usage seems to have abruptly changed. I know the PCV system sucks (literally), but could it be stuck or something? Maybe a busted piston ring or something? I don't notice any blue smoke in the rear view when I let off the throttle or step on it, but it is going somewhere. No puddles under the car. Any thoughts? I really was hoping to not put more money into it after redoing the rear recently.

do a compression test and a leakdown. harbor freight has both these kits you can do for under $80.

Very possible the oil control ring packs are pasted with carbon and are doing nothing to control oil. Very hard to clean this mess up unfortunately, could try a top engine cleaner but you really need something that can sit and soak the ring packs clean. I started using diesel engine oil in mine to help clean the rings and its seems to be working. I'm using a lot less oil. These engines paste the ring pack up quickly and regular engine oil just can't keep up with it.

Interesting. I will try some sort of cleaner. I will say I had the plugs changed about 4k miles back and they were very clean. Very possible that something bad could have happened since though. I may also try to clean the PCV valve just in case.

I thought I had a sticky lifter in my Suburban so I put this stuff in it for 1,000-ish miles.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Then did an oil change with Mobil 1. Pretty sue the truck had only seen regular dino oil before hand. Well long story short, I started losing a half a quart every two days or so!! That's bad, but it's also good because it means between the engine cleaner and the Mobil 1 I had cleaned a ton of S out the engine. I started topping it off with Mobil 1 High Mileage Formula. Leaks stopped and now I hardly lose any oil at all. So maybe you might want to try the same thing? Some Rislone cleaner and then swap to the H.M. formulation.

Not sure if this stuff will be able to clean the ring packs but it's worth a shot. And for what it's worth I use a different H.M. oil in my Silverado. 315K and just needs a top off every now and then. Pretty sure the HM stuff works.

I'd use Dexron iv ATF instead Rislone, I've used Rislone before and it did nothing to help. ATF on the other hand frees up sticky lifters quickly and cleans.
