Mobil 1 - M-107 or there is a larger one that I do not know the number for off the top of my head.
Run 10w30 and you will be fine

M1-206 is the long filter. For what it's worth my engine has 77,000 miles and has been running Mobil 1 oil and filter since 5,000 miles. I just had to take the heads off to notch my pistons. I was pleasantly surprised that the cross hatching on the cylinder walls was still present and the engine was very clean, no sludge or deposits. Mobil 1 has made me a believer.

I run the K&N 2006 filter (it's the long one) and Mobil 1 0w40. Can't go wrong with either Mobil 1 or Amsoil though... so pick whichever one you can get easiest or at the best price.

The owners manual recommends 5w30. It says you can run 10w30 if you won't see temps below 0*F, but the 5w30 is still better for it. It says NOT to run heavier oil, such as 10w40. IT even says you can use straight 30 if it won't see temps below 40*.

Take a look at the forum bobistheoilguy.com

The LS1 likes a bit thicker of an oil. See if you can find "GC" or 0-30 castrol syntec made in germany (autozone)

If I recall the M1 5-30 is on the thin side of 30 weight oils

The K&N is not a waste of money at all, it's the best choice in filters for the LS1. I use nothing but the K&N on both of my cars.

well i think ill buy 3 filters for the price of one of those. i just dont think its worth it IMO if you change the oil regularly. my friend used to run k&n filter on his car and i had less **** in my oil than he did, so he switched

Well I've got a more scientific approach to my decision, I see my oil analysis reports which tell me the filter is doing it's job very well. Much better than the way you've decided to choose. Even if you change regularily, you can't get away from the fact that the K&N outflows the AC Delco by a huge margin.

Hey Patman, K&N and Mibil 1 filters are made by the same company aren't they? I also believe they have the same filter media. However for some reason I was under the impression that the K&N flowed better but did not filter down to as few of microns that the Mobil 1 does. Comments?

thats fine, i just dont wanna spend 10 bucks for a filter every 2k miles. what about the purolator oil filter? you wouldnt happen to have any specs on the size they filter down to do you? i might be wrong by what im about to say but if it flows better wouldnt it miss the smaller particles? i dont know i never had an analysis done, so please inform me. i just never thought it was a big enough difference to change but if it is i would like to know. i used to run purolator pure one until damn advance ran out of them, all they had was fram and ac delco, which was one of the main reasons for using ac delco as well lol

from what i am reading on other test sites is that the mobil one filter is the best, filters down to low micron levels and sill maintains high flow, here is what i found

Like the Champion, this filter is made by Champion Industries. However, it uses a unique end plate and a thicker can that make it the strongest filter available for wide-distribution retail sale. It also does not use the fragile paper media of the Champion filter. I’m happy to say that this filter is NOT a fake. It is definitely a unique design.

It uses a synthetic fiber element that can filter out very small particles and is much stronger than the fragile, Champion paper media. It is rated just under the Purolator Pure One as far as filtering capability, but is still very much above conventional paper filters. It also has a very strong construction to withstand high-pressure spikes during start-up. Given the choice between the Purolator Pure One and the Mobil 1 filters, I would choose the Mobil 1 because of the restriction concerns of the Pure One and that pesky assembly string. However, as with all Mobil 1 products, expect to pay 2 - 3 times as much for this filter.

I use a Pure One, part#PL14006. Hasn't failed me yet, then I usually run 5w-30 or 10w-30 depending upon the season.

i read that pure one didnt flow well but filtered well, bill, do you have any web pages with test results? the ones i have seen said k&n and mobil one were similar but the mobil one out filtered the k&n but the k&n outflowed the mobil one, after reading some of the test results i am convinced these filters are a good bit better, not only for the flow and filtration but other reasons. i read the k&n did not have a bypass but mobil one did, what is the differences in these? i assume that is the reasons for k&n higher flow?

Every 2k? Man you're changing way too often! I went 6k on my last run, and the analysis showed I can go longer, so this run will be 8k. I might even go 10k on the next run. If the oil analysis proves the engine wear is low, and the condition of the oil is still very good with no contamination, then I might as well get my money's worth out of the oil!

It will, but those smaller particles won't cause engine wear, my oil analysis results are proof of that. Flow is much more critical on engines that see a lot of full throttle. Purolator filters flow pretty well, and filter down to about 20-30 microns I believe. The K&N filters down to around 20. Mobil 1 claims 10, but tests show it does not flow as well as they claim. K&N and M1 are both made by Champion Labs, but use different filtering media.
