Default is my car running too hot?

I have a ls1 scanmaster and i watch the temps on it. when im idling in traffic for a long time on a hot day, im seeing temps over 230 on the scanmaster. the cluster gauge shows a hair below 210 until the temps reach over 230 to liek 232, then the guage on the cluster moves a hair past 210. this is when i turn off my AC, and wait for the car to cool, and it goes done into the 220's. i have a 160 thermo, and a radiator flush was done 2 months ago, i did have a fan change, my mechanic put a single big fan, which he said flows the same as the stockers (they crapped out on me). the mechanic said my scanmaster is showing temps coming from another sensor and i should pay attention to the gauge on the cluster instead.

so is 230 on the scanmaster too hot?

thanks.

i believe one temp sensor is used for the gauge and another (2 wires ) is used as the ect ya 230 is a tad hot for an aluminum engine
