Default Cigarette Lighter fuse keeps blowing

Ever since I got my new motor in the car, when I go to data log and plug in my power inverter, I keep blowing the fuse for the cigarette lighter. It mainly happens if I have it plugged in and on while the car is off. But it has blown a few times even with the car running and the inverter plugged in and on. It never used to have any issues before with the old motor, so i'm just wondering what could be up? It kind of scares me, cuz i've been running an extension cord out to power the laptop, but if it's not just the invertor causing it and it happens to blow while i'm uploading a program, i'll be screwed! Any ideas, thanks in advance!

does the fuse blow when you use the LIGHTER? If not I would tell you to check what amperage the inverter is pulling using a VOM (Fluke). Does the inverter get hotter then normal?

I don't know, I never paid attention to how hot it got. And I don't use the lighter plug in for anything else. But when the car was off and a buddy tried pluggin his a/f meter into it on the dyno, he was having issues gettin power out of it when the car was off it only showed that it was givin out 10 volts instead of 12, is that normal? And then when I turned the car on, it seemed ok.

****, I wish I could, but I don't actually have the lighter anymore, chucked it a long time ago, not a smoker. Anywhere I can pick up one that'll fit cheap?

Ok, cool. Could it be just the socket, or something in the wiring somewhere? Cuz if that's the case i'll just change the socket out!

And thanks for all the help man, appreciate it!

Make sure you get the right style lighter. I believe it is the shorter one, both will fit in the hole but the one thats just a tad longer will blow the fuse as well, trust me.
