Default Service vehicle soon light with oil change light?? any ideas?

Heres my theory. My oil was changed, forgot to reset light for about 10-15 driving cycles now, so im thinking the car is saying please change the oil and put on the permenent service vehicle soon light, so now i just reset the oil light, i didnt start the car yet, so im not sure if its gonna say service vehicle soon, its stupid thought. Ill be heading off to the gym in a couple hrs, ill be back with an update whether the light comes on or not.

I've yet to see an SES light trip because the Change Oil light's been on. While you're out at the gym, swing by Autozone or some similar place and have them scan the code for you....

Agreed. The Oil Change light should not set off the SES light. Your computer is reading another code that you aren't aware of. Any auto store like the one mentioned should do it for free. After you get it scanned, tell us what it says and we'll tell you how to fix it if you're not sure. Trust me, I also work for Advance Auto Parts and do this everyday.

Get the code scanned. AutoZone does it for free. No sence guessing what it is when it is easy to get it scanned for free.

guys im not a rookiE! dont let the post count fool you . Yeah i know SES lights, my buddy has hp tuners, we are talking about the Service Vehicle Soon Light, not Service Engine Soon light, it is confusing because its rare that it comes up thats why im asking you guys about it. Ive done some searches and it seems like it comes on with a combination of 1 or more indicator lights, thats why my theory of the oil change light and it being together was about and i didnt get to the gym, but tommorow i will see if its on still. Either way this light is pretty stupid as it doesn't tell you crap about whats wrong.

If you find out the problem, make sure to post it. I'm sure I'm not the only one that wants to know whats going on. Good luck on the problem.

UPDATE!! OK Guys you might wanna take note of this. Basically the light goes on for NON Emissions related stuff, remember that. I told you i reset the oil light yesterday, took it for a drive today, no service vehicle light. Basically The light will only pop on if your low on coolant, need an oil change and both these lights stay on for long periods of time, its kinda of a redundancy just in case you dont see the other lights or for whatever reason. So If the light comes on, its either because you have something up with the brakes maybe, abs, coolant low light has been on, oil change light has been on, a short somewhere in the ground. Everything is good now. But i know this subject is pretty fuzzy, but i figured it out.

F-body lights must be visually inspected unfortunately. If any lights go out, you will find out when the red and blues lights start flashing. Trust me.

I've never been bothered about dead lights by the fuzz.

Easy to tell when a lowbeam is out... our shitty lighting is even shittier!

it doesn't do it for all the lights on the grand am's just the headlights. but it is kinda hard to NOT know that a headlight is out

Exactly. If GM was thinking when they designed these cars, they would have put the sensor on the rear lights.

Becarful with the HID setup, if you don't install a block for the lowbeams your going to end up blinding folks. Don't replace your HIGHs with hids, they get turned off and on to much for the ballasts to be happy for long.
