Default What happend??? Please help!!!

I am coming home from work and I notice about half way home that My car is begining to warm up no big deal right its TEXAS it was about 90 degrees outside and thought nothing of it is it bound to do that but I notice that It is staying at a constant 210 right in the middle so I start paying attention to it and it stays right in the middle like if the thermostat was not opening and it wasnt so I get home and it finally starts to pass 210 just a little bit and I walk by the front of the car and notice smoke coming from the crack of the hood to the bumper I automatically pop the hood and their is coolant mostly every where and it smells like burning coolant the smoke finally clear after about 3 mins.. What happened to my car is it the water pump or thermostat??? HElp me please any advice?

steam was prolly from coolant boiling,Start with the cheapest ie: thermostat, if car still gets hot then go with a water pump. Just don't get it fom Autozone, trust me.

The Car never passed the 210(center mark)on gauge I was maybe thinking the thermostat closed stay closed and caused pressure to build and the coolant went every where.

Simple things first, check the hoses for splits or holes, could be (lucky)coincidence that it happened when you got home

I checked the oil and it looked nice and brown not milkish it just look ok I need to change it though it has been about 3 and a half months it looked a tad low though maybe half a quart. But I use full synthetic so I guess It is kind of normal. No low oil light.

This job happend to me last week. I was driving and all the sudden my temp guage went up. Then I pulled over and turned the car off and let it sit for few hours. Then I drove it home and it worked fine. I guess the thermostat stuck closed.

Anyway, there was antifreeze all over the engine. I put another thermostat in and washed the engine bay and have never had a problem.

I put the old thermostat in boiling water to see if it opens, and it did. My guess is that it just stuck close. May be a fluke, but for I just bought another one for $24 from autozone.

I would give that a try and see how that works out. Then again, it may have been a one time fluke and the thermostat my never stick closed again.

Also..pressure test your radiator cap. If the cap is not holding pressure this will cause your coolant to boil over.
