Default Strange High Idle Problem with my 98 TA/Car Drives itself!

Not long ago, I stated I had a problem with a somewhat high idle on my car; I was told that it didnt seem like anything was wrong. Now I have more details, and I hope I can get some help.

When I start my car up, I notice that the car idles a bit high, around 1100 rpms or so. It also sounds like it is a bit higher than normal. When I shift my car (automatic) into drive, the car sounds like it is revving while it is shifting, and the tach runs up to about 1300 RPMs, and it feels like the car wants to dart forward if my foot wasnt on the brake. After this, the tach reads about 900 RPMs without taking my foot off the brake.

Here's where i think it gets weird: If i get off the brake, but i DONT touch the gas, the car seems to be accelerating by itself. So, I experimented a little bit. I started at one end of my jobs parking lot, and just let off the brake in D. The car slowly but surely accelerated until about 15 mph (1500-1600 RPMs). At that point it shifts to second gear, and continues accelerating. (the parking lot is about 200 ft long). I have never seen how fast it will go because I generally run out of parking lot. Meanwhile, in Park, it still idles at about 1100 RPMS.

Any ideas what is going on? It feels like the car is getting a little bit of throttle, almost as if the pedal is SLIGHTLY depressed. Of course, after driving for a bit, the problem seems to mostly go away (although it still seems to be there a tiny bit). Is this some sensor, or is something mechanically getting stuck?

Try cleaning the TB and the IAC valve....and re-adjust the throttle cable

It is probably the TPS (Throttle Positioning Sensor). I had the same problem with my car. Send me a PM and let me know. I almost gurantee it is the sensor.

did you have to replace the sensor? how much did it cost you, and how difficult was it? Did your erratic idle probelm die down as the car warmed up??

How does the car run now?
