Need help with 98 T/A Headlamps and Alarm
I've only had my car since July and do not drive it much but a very strange thing happened yesterday. The whole thing started because I needed to ajust the gap on the headlamps to the new hood but when I tried to put the lights up the left hand one did not move. I hit the headlamp switch a couple of times and then the light seemed to work but the actuator seemed to vibrate and make loud noises when it retracted, and only on the retraction cycle. After numerous attempts of putting the lights up and down the actuator still did the same thing, but the lamp moved each time. I have my security system set on Mode 2 where the horn beeps and the parking lights cycle, however yesterday it was activating differently. When I hit the lock button on the Fob or the lock button on the door, the horn beeps, lights flash...but the headlamps went up and down and the left headlamp made a loud vibration noise for about 10 seconds and stopped. What causes this problem on these cars?

Thanks for the information, I think it's exactly what I need of the "noise" being made. I am still however, looking for the explanation on why the headlamps cycle up and down each time the door locks/alarm is activated.

the reason why they cycle when the alarm is set is the headlight gears are broken. When you set the alarm the car checks to see if the lights are off/down. Since the gear is stripped the motor freewheels and the computer cant tell that they are down so it cycles them up and then down to make sure they are down/in the off position. You can do the free mod and rotate the headlight gear 180* since it only uses half the gear to raise and lower the headlight. You will get buy for a while like that and they will eventually break again. Get the metal gears and be done with it. Do a search for headlight gears..
