Default How To Get Rid Of This

my rear rotors are rusting where there isnt pad contact and it looks like ****. Im gonna have new wheels soon and dont want that behind them. Im gonna paint my calipers when I swap wheels, could I tape off the rotor and paint it or is there anything i can do to keep the rust off????

I taped mine off and painted it. I used bulldog rattle can adhesion promotor. Then I just sprayed them with black paint followed by clear coat. They've been fine for a couple of years and its not high temp paint.

Painting them is pretty much the only thing you can do. I painted mine silver to match the caliper brackets. I used high temp paint and it still looks great.

I do aggree, it dosn't look so nice at that stage, you could leave it a couple of weeks, its goes a dark brown colour almost black and its wont stand out so much.

- Wire brush / wheel to knock of the loose rust
- Brake parts cleaner to remove grease
- Several layers of high temp paint - leftover caliper paint is ideal

So long as you get the rotor grease free and use a high temp paint it'll hold up at least a year.

Using primer and clearcoat is probably a good idea but to me this is something that I'm pretty much betting on retouching once every year or two, at tire rotations, etc.

I painted mine black along with my calipers and you can barely notice it, so a few problems wouldn't stick out. It's just when the whole thing is rusty it sticks out like crazy.

Let it finish rusting and get uniform, it won't take very long.
Then get some vapor phase corrosion converter (like POR-15), paint on a light uniform coating and it will turn it flat black where the rust was.

Its simple, easy, and makes it look good with minimal fuss.

Worked good on mine.

I was thinking about using something like POR15 but, I didn't have rust everywhere, and I was a little concerned about the thermal capacity and sunlight exposure limitations of it.

How long have you had yours POR'd?

paint them, and get a good zinc coated rotor at replacement time.
