Default LS1 Ticking Just Started

I have a 99 z28 with 30 thousand miles on it. I picked the car up with 26800 and it didnot make any noises then. but now it makes a ticking at 1000 all the way up as long as you listen good. and i was thinking vlave train but i cant hear it on the top of the motor. just lower like behind the front left tire the best. any input

Thanks justin

Exhaust leak possibly? That sounds like what your describing, if you can hear it in the wheelwell. I would check to see if all the bolts are tight on the manifolds, thats a good place to start.

My guess would be a pushrod. That's what it's been everytime I've heard it. Very easily could be an exhaust leak though.

My LT1 does the same **** and it only had 40K on it. I took it to few places and they told me that it's my lifters
Mine starts to tick at 2k rpm.

Did you just do an oil change? If so try a thicker oil. I know a lot of you won't like this but my car sounded like a sewing machine when I used M1 5W-30. I switched to the German Castrol and it stopped ticking. Maybe it's not the same with your car but worth a shot.

if you can hear it from the back but not the top, its very much just a leak. my lifters failed a couple of times on my old engine and its a very very distinct ticking noise, it's much louder and can be heard while at idle and only gets worse as the RPMs increase. tighten the header bolts (if you have headers) and go from there. if the problem stops then you're golden. but if it persists try other methods. i've heard you can plug the tail pipes and have someone hold rags in them and the exhaust should be coming out from a leak. if nothing then it could be the lifters or even a bent pushrod, which is not a good thing ever. but seeing as how it's only got 30k on it...it doesnt seem too probable that it has a valvetrain problem. but that doesn't mean its not possible. good luck with it.
