Angry throttle stuck on VERY crowded road...

ok so im driving...doing my thing...and i hit the gas...no problem..there is a red light ahead so i get off the gas to hit the brakes and the pedal...or throttle or w/e is stuck and car is continuing to accelerate....
so i like semi panic and hit the gas pedal a few time very quickly and the brake...and finally it slows down...

what in the HELL was that???
i mean, that could be a serious problem in the future....

please chime in!

check your floor mat?? If your floor mat moves around and gets bunched up near your pedals it could have jammed your gas pedal.

I just had this happen to me the other night and if you have cruise control, check the cable on the T/B as it might be crinked or be slightly bent.It can get that way from doing things in your engine bay.

If you have Traction Control on the car, there are adjustment points in the cables leading to the TCS unit. Pull the clip out of them, pull them tight and put the clip back in.

When my car had ~20k on it, it had some slop in the throttle cable and would flip over the side of the cam and catch on the side of it and hang the throttle open.

Happened to me when pulling away from a toll booth. Full on acceleration - ***** out. I was going 110 by the time I had to shut it down (but could not until I was on a straight stretch of highway as I would lose my power steering when I shut it off and expressway was crowded). First thing I checked was the floor mat but it wasn't that. I think I hit the gear shift and put it into neutral when reaching for the floor mat. Ended up blowing the frickin engine. But that's ok, that just let me put a faster one in it!

I had a problem before this happened with it revving to 1,000 rpm when I stopped. Never checked what that was but it probably had everything to do with it freaking out...

LOL! Ya, it happened to me in my 68 Impala. Going down a residential block. I out the car in neutral. Turned it off. And found out my throttle spring, got hung up. Alittle McGiver (sp?) minute later. I was good as gold.
