anyone have a clunk like this ?
got a 98 T/A , i have a clunking sound when backing up or sometimes going forword and i noticed it fantly going down the road when hitting a bump , its a clunking sound from the right rear it seams , kinda sounds like a shock loose or somthing , ive checked the bolts on my lca and my sfc are welded in , checked the shocks and there tight , could this be a tranny mount playing with my ears and just sounding like its coming from that corner ? it does it every time when i backup , somtimes when taking off .

My car started having a clunk after I put in my LCA's. I only hear it when I go over bumps. All the bolts were tight, but if I go and smack the front part of the LCA's, I could hear the clunk. Not sure what the problem is, since I used the stock bolts. I'm currently in the market for another set of LCA's to see if that fixes the problem.

Mine clunks also.
00 WS6 M6; Usually when I back up it sounds like a clunk from the front end. After backing up it sometimes clunks when starting to move forward. I also heard this on a buddies 01 WS6 A4. WTF is it???

my car started making a clunking noise when i took off to hard on it, and now my rear end gears are fried. i would check the torque arm in the rear end, kinda sounds like that is your problem

I've just started to notice this now summers here & i'm cruisin with the windows down a lot! sounds like rearright springs hittin but they're tight, only thing i've done recently is change rotors & pan hard bar relocation.
I cut one of the bolts down because it was catching a spring but it's still happening, even taken spare out so it's not that! but have noticed my exaust sounds a lot rougher maybe it's just me but i'll check intermediate pipe may have come loose!
Also get out & try bouncing the back of the car up and down you'll know if your shocks are stuffed!

check to see if your spring is hitting the pan hard bar bracket. mine did this, it seemd like the spring was moving around on its mount. I moved the spring back with a crow bar and had my dad make a tack weld to keep it inplace, problem selved.

I had the same clunking going on, it was the torque arm bolts on the rear. Took me forever to find it, cause when the car was on a lift the suspension was unloaded and made the arm seem tight. I got a wild hair up my *** to make the street conditions on the lift and jacked up the rear end a bit. As it went up I watched the torque arm wiggle. I think I forgot to tighten it after my (insert any install).

Might be your tansmission mount. If you take off and something feels like its hitting the bottom of your car then thats most likely your problem. Could be the torque arm suport also. Had the same problem and the sound seems to be hard to locate.

Bingo!!! found it! This may not be the same for everyone tho!
Climbed under car push up & down on car: no squeak! push on lca/phr: no squeak! grabbed hold of intermediate pipe checked clamps, all tight tried pushing on it: squeak squeak! not exactly sure where on the exaust it is because clearance all round is good! but now i know what it is i'll be takin it out & reinstalling it also got some fire gum, which heat seals around joints & clamps.
Hope this helps!
