Default Overheating help!!

While driving around the past few days i notice there was a small hiss sound from the radiator which look like it was near one of the hoses. Today while driving i notice the temp guage went all the way up so i imidiately stoped, after while turned on the car and everyhting went back to normal, so i thought might of been a glitch whith the guage. Later the car starts heating up, all the way to the red mark, so i stop and fill resouvor with water, turn it back on and car slowly start to over heat again, with plenty of water.

Anyone know what might be causing this? stuck thermostat? needs a flush? dead water pump?

I might be your thermo. Try putting it in a pan of boiling water an see if it opens up. A broken water pump usually spits coolant everywhere.

If you hear hissing, it may be the radiator cap. You can take it to autozone and they can pressure test it for you. You can also start the car and leave the radiator cap off and see if coolant starts to circulate when it warms up - to check the thermostat.

Yea i agree with above probly the thermostat, cheap and easy to replace but he also brought up the rad cap. You can rent a pressure tester from chinazone or take them your cap and they can check it.

There was also a GM bulletin stating that the radiator neck may have some imperfections creating a bad seat with the radiator cap. If the cap tests ok and you hear hissing around the cap, it may be it. The info suggests lightly wet sanding the neck to remove any imperfections.
