Default not charging

ok, i own a 2000 camaro ss. i was losing volts the other day so i thought my alt was goin out. took it out, but the wire pulled out of the pigtail. baught a new one hooked the only red wire that goes to the alt to the "b" port on the plug. still didnt fix. baught new battery, didnt fix it. that wire is not getting any power when running or just when the switch is on. so i hooked up a jumper wire from a keyed ignition source to that wire and it charged up. took it home, unloaded off trailer, fixed it perminently (thought so) and wont charge again. pull alt off and it is bad again. put it back on, charged up to 18+ volts and now wont charge again.

any suggestions here? i am lost. i think the 18 volts fried the alt again but why am i gettin that many volts? i hook my race car up like (just a sbc with a one wire alt) and it works fine
