Default hard steering

Mabe some of you guys have had this problems. I was making a U turn. When i was turnig left i had the steering wheel cranked all the way so i could clear the curb. There was a belt squeal. When i got the vehicle straight forward I notice right away there was no power steering. It doesn't make any noise when turning it's just hard. I thought about trying a new pump first cause it's about the cheapest. But i'm afraid it may be in the rack. I appreciate any help. Thanks.

that was the first thing i checked i also notice some play in the pulley wasn't sure if that was normal so i think i will try a pump first since it's cheap and not really hard to do i will get let you know how it works out. Thanks

If there is alot of play it may be slipping and not spinning the pump fast enough to give you full power steering.
