Default Question About Repairs

I have an '02 Formula with 36K miles.

I am not mechanically inclined and on a pretty tight budget.

My major question is this:

When repairs are needed, is it ok to take an LS1 to a general mechanic who charges less, instead of taking it to a dealer or a Firebird specialist?

Thanks.

your going to get raped at a dealer... go to the regional forums on this site and ask around to see where the good mechanics are. are you having anyproblems now?

If something goes wrong you'll probably throw a SES light, you can get the code(s) read free at places like Auto Zone, post them here first - sometimes it's an easy fix.

F the dealership they charge a nut for stupid repairs. Get someone to refer you to a reputable mechanic and the more you get to know him he'll refer you to good transmission guys, bodyshops, etc networking is the way to do it. Just make sure hes a good mechanic that knows what he's doing

With only 36K miles your car should be fine for a while. Mine has 147K miles and the only thing I have replaced is CATS and the water pump.
